EUT20 Player Draft set for 24th March - Tim Southee, Faf du Plessis and Saim Ayub among the latest players to register
More than 1,000 players have registered according to the league
The Belgium based EUT20 franchise league has announced that a player draft for the tournament will be held on the 24th March in Brussels. Each franchise will have a salary budget of $250,000 (~€210731) to spend in the draft.
The league - which is owned by Destino Legends LLC in partnership with the Belgian Cricket Federation - is set to have six teams representing cities across Belgium and is slated to run from 6-14 June.
A number of high profile stars have registered for the draft with internationals such as Tim Southee, Faf du Plessis and Saim Ayub announced in the last week. Other names recently added include James Vince, Imran Tahir and Ben Cutting.
A Nepali quartet will also feature with Sandeep Lamichhane, Rohit Paudel, Dipendra Singh Airee and Lalit Rajbanshi set to represent the Rhinos on the franchise stage.
According to the league more than 1,000 players have registered so far.
The exact details of the draft have yet to be revealed but it is understood that each of the six squads will have four Belgian player, four associate players, four active full member internationals and six full member players who have not played international cricket in the previous 24 months.
Playing XIs will feature a maximum of nine overseas players with a minimum of two Belgian players, similarly to the ILT20.
Players selected under the Platinum category will receive USD30,000, going down to USD5,000 for category C players. Belgian players will go for as low as USD2,000. It is unknown how players in the top “Icon” bracket will be priced.
